NEA Ambassadors FAQ
What is my role as a NEA Ambassador?
As a NEA Ambassador, your main role is to serve as an engaged member of the eczema community, acting on your interest to learn more about atopic dermatitis and participating in volunteer opportunities as available, in service to the greater eczema community.
As such, you are making a commitment to deepen your understanding and potential impact in up to three focus areas: Advocacy, Community and Research.
What are my responsibilities as a NEA Ambassador?
Once qualified as a NEA Ambassador, you are encouraged to use the resources provided to you in the NEA Ambassadors platform. It is important that you review all materials shared by NEA, as they may include volunteer opportunities or requests for engagement.
Each course toolkit will include at least two qualified engagement activities of which Ambassadors must act on. In addition to completing two engagements within the group’s toolkit, Ambassadors are expected to complete two optional activities — whether offered by NEA or personal activities related to their Ambassadors’ group, within a year of becoming a NEA Ambassador. Ambassadors are expected to serve a minimal one-year term.
Examples of Ambassador activities may include:
- Completing a survey or a questionnaire
- Participating in a focus group
- Sharing your story
- Hosting an event or meetup
- Contacting your legislator
Ambassadors are expected to report on all activities by filling out an activity form and are encouraged to post about engagements on the corresponding Ambassador group feed.
How do I become an Ambassador?
Individuals interested in becoming a NEA Ambassador will need to complete the Ambassador curriculum, which includes a course covering the basics of eczema and NEA, as well as a course specific to the Ambassador Program of interest (Advocacy, Community and/or Research).
Following each course, Ambassador prospects will take a short quiz that requires a score of 100%. Each course and quiz combined should take between 10-15 minutes to complete.
Ambassadors have the opportunity to join as many Ambassador groups as they’d like as long as the related courses are completed and quizzes are passed. Please note, Ambassadors must remain active within each of the Ambassador groups they belong.
Is there a time commitment for NEA’s Ambassador program?
Ambassadors are expected to serve a minimal one-year term. Familiarizing oneself with NEA’s work, optimizing one’s engagement opportunities and fostering relationships takes time. The longer one serves as an Ambassador, the more opportunities there will be to make a difference as an engaged community representative.
How are Ambassadors recognized?
After successful completion of a full NEA Ambassador term, Ambassadors will be recognized on the NEA website and magazine.
What are the benefits of serving as a NEA ambassador?
NEA Ambassadors make a meaningful impact in the community, as they become informed in NEA’s focus areas. They will engage with individuals who share eczema in common and will mobilize around issues that are important, as they develop as recognized leaders within the eczema community.
On a larger scale, NEA Ambassadors will advance the understanding of atopic dermatitis among the general public, amplify specific needs of the community and serve as advisors in the design of patient-centered partnerships and programs.
Is it possible to join more than one ambassador group?
Ambassadors have the opportunity to join as many Ambassador groups as they’d like as long as the related courses are completed and quizzes are passed. For example, to become an Advocacy and Research Ambassador, one must pass the prerequisite NEA and eczema course, as well as the advocacy and research courses.
Each course takes around 15 minutes to complete and requires a 100% score. Please note, Ambassadors must remain active within each of the Ambassador groups they’re in.
Can non-US residents participate in the Ambassador Program?
The NEA Ambassador Program is for U.S. residents only. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you live outside of the U.S. and are interested in sharing your story, hosting a meet-up or organizing a fundraising and/or awareness event.
