Founded in 1988, the National Eczema Association (NEA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the largest patient advocacy organization serving the over 31 million Americans who live with eczema and those who care for them. NEA provides programs and resources to elevate the diverse lived experience of eczema, and help patients and caregivers understand their disease, actively engage in their care, find strength in one another — and improve their lives.

Additionally, NEA advances critical eczema research and partners with key stakeholders to ensure the patient voice is represented and valued in education, care and treatment decision making.

Position Designation: Senior Director, Marketing and Communications

Job Summary

The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications is a strategic, digitally driven leader responsible for shaping how NEA engages the world. Reporting to the President & CEO, this role has a strong focus on digital innovation and content creation, ensuring NEA’s voice is accessible, inclusive, and impactful across multiple platforms.

The Senior Director will craft and adapt campaigns that honor the lived experience of the eczema community, while leveraging analytics, data, and emerging trends to stay ahead in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

Strong leadership is essential in this role to establish clear brand alignment, uphold NEA’s voice, and ensure communications reflect NEA’s mission and organizational priorities. This position must collaborate effectively across teams while also serving as the decisive leader who guides staff and stakeholders toward strategies that elevate impact, relevance, and trust with our community. Because of the sensitive and mission-driven nature of NEA’s work, this role requires an understanding of healthcare, nonprofit, or patient advocacy environments and the ability to communicate with empathy, accuracy, and credibility.

As NEA continues to evolve, this position requires a forward-thinking strategist who can anticipate trends in digital engagement, lead with innovation, and strengthen NEA’s position as the trusted voice for the eczema community.

This full-time (40 hours per week) remote-based position is FLSA exempt.

Up to 10% annual travel is required to attend national NEA or related business meetings.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Marketing and brand strategy
  • Content development and storytelling
  • Digital engagement and analytics
  • Community and stakeholder engagement
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or related field required; advanced degree a plus.
  • 7+ years of progressive marketing/communications experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role with a national or international organization/company. Preference given to those with healthcare, patient advocacy or not-for-profit organizations.
  • Proven and strong expertise in digital marketing strategy, content creation, SEO/SEM, and analytics.
  • Experience managing campaigns across web, social media, email, and paid channels.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit mission-driven communications and sensitivity to patient/health communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex medical/scientific information into accessible, engaging content.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Data-driven mindset with proficiency in analytics tools (Google Analytics, social dashboards, CRM integration).
  • Strong leadership, project management, and vendor management skills.
  • Creative, forward-thinking, and adaptable with a collaborative spirit.
