Eczema can vary in appearance for many reasons including type, level of severity, affected part of the body and, notably, skin tone. It’s vital to have a comprehensive and inclusive visual guide that reflects these differences for proper diagnosis and treatment. That’s why the National Eczema Association created the Eczema Visual Guide. This online tool is the largest publicly-available repository of images showcasing the various forms of eczema across all skin tones.
To see photos of eczema, select the type of eczema, select skin tone(s) on the gradient and body part(s) below, and then click “View Images.” Results will appear.
Add your photos! Submit your eczema photos here for inclusion in the Eczema Visual Guide.
Here is a glossary of medical terms to help with photo descriptions. Photos are used with permission and will continue to be added to the guide over time.
The Eczema Visual Guide is not a diagnostic tool and is not a comprehensive reference for the appearance of atopic dermatitis or other types of eczema. The Eczema Visual Guide was funded in part by educational grants from Sanofi and Regeneron and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
