Study on Shared Decision Making and Eczema Patients
In 2021, the research team at the National Eczema Association (NEA) conducted an online survey to better understand how eczema patients engage in shared decision making with their doctors.
Shared decision making is a practice in which a healthcare provider works with a patient or caregiver to incorporate the patient’s unique preferences and values into decisions about medically appropriate treatment options. During a doctor’s visit, shared decision making is an approach that helps empower patients to make informed decisions — in collaboration with their doctor — about their care.
Based on the survey responses, the NEA research team found that collaboration with doctors correlates to higher care satisfaction for eczema patients.
